When Easwaramma Day was declared as Children's Day by Swami

The World Council of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation decided to observe every 6th day of May beginning from 1977, as Children’s Day world wide in commemoration of the death anniversary of Mother Easwaramma. This decision, made during the Golden Jubilee celebrations, had the consent of Swami.

The first Children’s Day celebrations were held at Prashanti Nilayam on 6th May 1977. 2,000 Bal Vikas students from Anantapur District were fortunate to participate in this function.The children from Smt. Easwaramma High School also joined them. Swami blessed the children at the Mother’s ‘Samadhi’ on 6th morning. He distributed to the children sweets and note books containing the picture of Easwaramma, at Poornachandra Auditorium that evening. Swami, in His Discourse, gave valuable advice to the parents. He stayed on till 8.30 pm, to witness the cultural programme presented by the Bal Vikas students.
