Sri Sathya Sai with the idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati |
A grand function to celebrate Shiva-Parvati Kalyanam (marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati) was held in the Divine Presence of Bhagavan in Sai Kulwant Hall on 4th September, 2010.
On the afternoon of 4th September, 2010, Bhagavan was led to Sai Kulwant Hall at 5.20 pm by Nadaswaram music troupe, Vedic chanting priests and two palanquins carrying the idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Bhagavan lit the sacred lamp at 5.30 pm and inaugurated the function. The idols were placed in the specially made Pandal, facing each other, in front of the dais. Then the priests began the ceremonies of the celestial wedding amidst Vedic chanting of Mantras. Once the rituals were completed, the idols were brought on the dais and placed close to each other.
Finally, Mangala Sutra (sacred thread worn by married woman) was offered to the idol of Goddess Parvati at 6.25 pm to complete the wedding ceremony. Aarti was offered to the idols. The students sang Bhajans dedicated to the Divine couple. A sumptuous feast of Prasadam was offered to the entire gathering in the Hall. The joyous celebration concluded with offering of Mangala Aarti to Bhagavan at 7.00 pm.
