In the evening, Swami gave Padanamskar to a group of devotees from Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. After the interviews, Swami came to Ganesh portico.
Swami : (To the students) When are your exams? Study. (He took letters from some students. Jokingly, pointing a student who had written a lengthy letter) This fellow is Pakka Chor (confirmed thief).
(Swami gave the letter back to him and asked him to write a short letter. To another student) Who are you?
Student : Swami, You.
Swami : Italian? Which class?
Student : Swami, 12th.
Swami : Christian? What is the meaning of ‘Christian’? What is its symbol?
Student : Swami, a cross.
Swami materialised a silver chain with a cross and a figure of Jesus Christ on it.
Swami : Be good. What are you going to do after your 12th?
Student : Swami, I want to be with You.
Swami : Study. Go to Italy. (Student was unwilling. Swami spoke to him a few words in Italian. Swami then saw the old chain (also materialised by Swami) that he was wearing.) Which subject?
Student : Swami, Maths, Physics and Chemistry.
Swami : Marks? (The student didn’t reply.) Less marks. After studying go quickly (to Italy).
Student : No, Swami.
Swami : (To Prof. Anil Kumar) What is the news? Are all boys studying?
Prof. A. K. : Swami, they are studying in the classroom.
Swami : They just see the book.
Prof. A. K. : I know only that much, Swami.
Swami : They see the book, you see their face! (To another teacher) How are the boys?
Teacher : They are studying well Swami. (Swami calls Niranjan, Research Scholar, who is doing PhD on Leadership based on Mahabharat.)
Swami : (To Niranjan) How are you Bharatam? What is the meaning of ‘Enna Bharate, Tanna Bharata’?
Niranjan : Swami, what is not there in Bharat is not there anywhere.
Swami : (Swami calls a devotee. To the devotee) Mexico? What are you doing there?
Devotee : Seva, Swami.
Swami : When are you going back?
Devotee : Swami, 18th.
Swami : (Swami called two more devotees.) What are you doing there?
Devotee : Swami, Music.
Swami : Which? Eastern or Western?
Devotee : Swami, Eastern.
Swami : Which instrument?
Devotee : Sitar, Swami.
Swami : (Pointing to a student) What is he studying?
Devotee : I don’t know, Swami.
Swami : See him and tell. UG or PG?
Devotee : Swami, Music.
Swami : Music? He is doing Ph.D. (Pointing towards the Warden, Dr. Siva Sankara Sai) What is he studying?
Devotee : Don’t know.
Swami : He is Warden. Very good Warden.
Devotee : Swami, what is Warden?
Swami : Hostel in-charge. He controls all these boys. (To the Warden, Dr. Siva Sankara Sai) How many years back you did Ph.D.?
Prof. Siva Sankara Sai with Sri Sathya Sai |
Warden : Twelve years back, Swami.
Swami : (Pointing to Prof. Anil Kumar, to the devotee) Who is he? Which subject?
Devotee : Swami, teacher.
Swami : Biosciences. My translator. Is he good?
Devotee : Yes, Swami. But I cannot hear a few words.
Swami : Not his mistake.
Devotee : Yes, Swami. My mistake.
Swami : When are you going back?
Devotee : Swami, April.
Swami : Not this March? Come tomorrow. I will talk to you. Are you happy?
Devotee : Yes, Swami.
Swami : (Pointing towards the students) Are all these boys good?
Devotee : Yes, Swami.
Swami : How do you know?
Devotee : They look good and clean.
Prof. A. K. : Good observation.
Swami : Observation is artificial. (To the devotees) Go and sit. (To one of the devotees who didn’t have any hair) Why do you shave your head?
Devotee : Clean.
Swami : (To Prof. Anil Kumar) They spend all their holidays (three months) here only. They are always happy.
Prof. A. K. : Swami, they practice Bhajans. They discuss Your teachings.
Swami : In Bangalore also they sit in an open place and do Bhajans. They do not waste even a moment. Mexico and U.S.A. are side by side. Only a road is in between them. Just like Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
Prof. A. K. : Swami, Hislop’s wife is also a Mexican. His book ‘Conversations with God’ is a standard book. (Dr. John Hislop was the First President of the Sathya Sai Organisations, U.S.A., and author of many books on Swami and His Message.)
Swami : Steel Plant people (to whom Swami gave Padanamaskar) are very happy.
Prof. A. K. : Swami, human values, social values and spiritual values. Are all these one?
Swami : Fundamentally, they are all the same. Mud pots are of many sizes, but the mud is the same. Names and forms are many, but they are all made from the same mud. (Swami gave the example of the story where six blind men each touching different parts of the elephant’s body give their own interpretation about it, though the elephant was the same.)
Prof. A. K. : Then what is liberation, Swami?
Swami : Knowing that all these are not true is liberation. (Swami called some devotees from Venezuela. To a devotee) What are you studying?
Devotee : Swami, Electronic Engineering.
Swami : When are you going back?
Devotee : April, Swami.
Swami : Are you happy?
Devotee : Yes, Swami.
Swami : How do you know? Where is happiness? (They did not answer.) What do you want?
Devotee : Atma, Swami.
Swami : Where is Atma?
Devotee : Everywhere Swami.
Swami : (To another devotee) What do you want?
Devotee : Swami, only You.
Swami : You don’t want anything else? After Engineering what will you do?
Devotee : Swami, work.
Swami : Very happy. How many people are there in your group?
Devotee : Swami, nine.
Swami : Good. (Swami sends them back. To a student) How are they? (There was no reply. Swami went into the interview room and came back at 5.00 pm. To Prof. Anil Kumar) What are you seeing?
Prof. A. K. : Swami, You are walking beautifully. (Swami mentioned that M.A. (Economics) course was going to be introduced in the Institute.)
Warden : Boys will be very happy, Swami. For many years boys have been waiting and praying for the introduction of this course. Swami, boys are praying if they can accompany Swami to Kodaikanal?
Swami : I have to go to Bangalore. Lot of work is there. Appointment of doctors. (Then Swami spoke to Prof. Anil Kumar about his relative. In the course of the interaction He revealed that He did not forget anything.) I went to Pidugurallu (a town in the Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh) long back.
Prof. A. K. : Swami, the Pidugurallu Sai Samiti president’s son is studying in our School.
Warden : We heard that the Sai Samiti Mandir in Pidugurallu is ready and they are waiting for Swami to inaugurate it.
Swami : Yes. (Meanwhile, flute music started. To Prof. Anil Kumar) Do you like flute or Sitar?
Prof. A. K. : Swami, Sitar. He (the student, C. G. Sai Prakash) plays Bhajan tunes.
Swami : Our U. S. Rao (Dean, School of Business Management in Swami’s University) - which subject?
Prof. A. K. : Management. He teaches nicely.
Swami : If I go to Bangalore, all of you will study well.
Students : No, Swami.
Swami went for Bhajans and then retired to the Poornachandra residence.
