Sri Sathya Sai on the Police Conference at Prasanthi Nilayam

March 15, 2002 (Thursday)

Swami came to the Ganesh portico at around 4.45 pm.

Swami : (To Prof. Anil Kumar about the Police Conference on ‘Self-Management’ that was being conducted at the Ashram) Are all the police people happy?

Prof. A. K. : Yes, Swami.

Swami : This is a new world for them. Whatever I said today, they want to make it into a book and take it. (Swami had addressed them in the Bhajan hall.)

Prof. A. K. : Swami spoke with them for a long time.

Swami : Without translation I spoke for two hours. All, including the S.P. (Superintendent of Police) and D.I.G. (Deputy Inspector General) came for the programme. They said that they were taking very good care of all the people who come from various countries. As a result they wanted Me to give them something. Many times, they do their job unwillingly; but today they are very happy. They do their duty with the feeling that this is My job. They are very fortunate as only they could do like this. They all heard with a lot of interest. Usually police people cannot sit like that for so much time. Whenever they used to come, they used to feel sad that they didn’t have such Praapti (Divine opportunity).

Prof. A. K. : Swami, they knew the truth.

Swami : They are very fortunate. I never gave a discourse like this to anyone. Why are you so dull today?

Prof. A. K. : Swami, I am normal.

Swami : You are strong too.

Prof. A. K. : Swami, still there are many things for them to see.

Swami : They said that they wanted to see the museum. But also added that if they saw Swami, it is enough. What is news? What is today’s food?

Prof. A. K. : Swami, normal only. Nothing special. All that is eaten by householders.

Swami : Are we Sanyasis? (Swami asked a rhetorical question because Prof. Anil Kumar linked food to his being a householder.) Food should not be special, it should be Sahajam (normal). (Again speaking about the Police Conference) None of them must have imagined Shivaratri to be like this. They never get a chance to see it. For three hours, all of them enjoyed as if it was their normal duty time. This is the first time they are coming.
(About the Ayodhya situation) Today at 2 o’clock they said that they will start the Puja (ritual worship), and all the police are ready.

Prof. A. K. : Swami, even though the Supreme Court has instructed them not to perform, they are still doing it.

Swami : For spirituality, Puja is not necessary. When are the exams starting?

Teacher : Swami, 26th. Some have from Monday.

Swami : From Saturday?

Teacher : Swami , for some it is starting from 22nd.

Swami : The exams should get over for all by April 1st.

Warden : Swami, boys have prepared speeches.

Swami : You don’t have any other work! (The Warden would always pray to Swami on behalf of the students so that more and more of them would get opportunities to perform before Him.) What is news? (No answer. Then Swami said loudly) Tell...

Prof. A. K. : Swami, if you ask me to speak, I will speak only about politics.

Prof. Anil Kumar would always put before Swami issues of national concern so that all present would benefit from Swami’s guidelines on those important issues.

Swami : (To a student) Are your mother and father happy?

Student : Yes, Swami.

Swami : (Jovially) What is your wife’s father’s name? (The student did not reply.)

Prof. A. K. : (Smiling) Swami, he wants to tell only after it is decided!

Swami : (Mischievously smiling) Not only engagement, everything is over!
Only sacred thread is left! He is waiting for the exams to get over.

Prof. A. K. : Swami, it seems Sanskrit paper for tenth class exams was tough.

Swami : Was it tough?

Students : Yes, Swami.
