"Where is your ring?"

 February 5, 1997 (Evening)

MBA and MFM students were pleading with Swami to accompany them to Madras.

Swami: There is no sufficient place for the devotees. I cannot come. If you want, you can go.

To a small student with a fractured hand…
Swami: How is it?

Student: Swami, much better. The doctor told me to keep the bandage for some more days.

Swami: Yes, yes, keep it.

Swami: (To another student, after accepting his letter) Are you sick?

Student : No, Swami.

Swami : Are you having cough?

Student : No, Swami.

Swami : Then what?

Student : Parents are coming tomorrow.

Swami : Go outside the gate and tell them, ‘Welcome… welcome’, and let them come in.

(To another student who was holding a letter)  You are giving letter daily!
Student : No, Swami.
Swami : Is your stomach alright?
Student : Yes, Swami.
Swami : Then, why are you giving this letter?

To a student whose ring had become too tight to be worn…

Swami:Where is your ring?

The student immediately took out the ring from his pocket and showed it to Swami. Then Swami took the ring in His hands…

Swami : Where is the third diamond?
(The student did not reply. Swami gave the ring to another student,)

Swami: How many diamonds are there?

Student: Swami, two.

(Swami took the ring back, rubbed it with His fingers, blew over it, and showed it to the student to whom the ring belonged. It was a similar ring with three diamonds, but bigger in size.)

Swami: It is bigger and shining more now. If Sai wants, He can not only change the ring, but also the entire world. (Giving it to the student)  Keep the ring in the case and wear it tomorrow, because it is a Thursday.

After a while Swami again came up to that student and asked…

Swami: Where is your ring case?

The student took out the ring case and gave it to Swami. Swami opened it, took out the ring, and put it on the student’s finger. Inside the Bhajan hall, two students were offering handkerchiefs to Swami. Swami playfully took both kerchiefs, interchanged them, and gave them back. Later, these two students were showing the handkerchiefs again.

Swami: Exchange Kiya?

Students: Yes, Swami.

Swami: Dunnapotha!!

Student: Swami, please come to Madras.

Swami: Nahi Aa Sakta Hai. Kal Krishnamoorty Se Baat Kiya. Krishnamoorty Bhi Chala Gaya. Bahut Crowd Rahega. (I can’t come. Yesterday, I spoke to Krishnamoorty. [Sri T.G. Krishnamoorty, State President, Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Tamil Nadu] Krishnamoorty also has gone back to Madras. There will be a big crowd.)

At that moment, Bhajans started and Swami moved forward.
