“Sins accumulated by ungratefulness will be there for lives together…”

July 3, 2002 (Wednesday)

Swami came out at 3.30 pm.

Swami : Emi Samaacharamu? (What news?) It’s very hot.

Prof. A. K. : No, Swami.

Seeing some teachers seated in the front, Swami enquired.

Swami : Workshop? When is it? Day after? I know. (Swami called some students and asked them to distribute sweets. He then called a student and asked him whether he wants to join Medical College in Bangalore as some devotee was offering a seat.) You can join only if you want to. I have nothing to gain in it. I want all of you to be happy. You are not doing any favour to Me. Ask your parents and join. This is for your good only. Do not have any bad feeling. Yad Bhavam, Tad Bhavati (As you think, so it is). Feelings should be good.

Student : Whatever You say, Swami.

Swami : This is for your good only.
(Swami then asked Prof. Anil Kumar) Who is a good student?

Prof. A. K. : I don’t know.

Swami : Hanuman was an ideal student. When Hanuman was young, his mother, Anjana Devi wanted someone to teach him. Then she thought of Lord Surya (the Sun God) as he was having very less work because it was the Earth that was moving around the Sun and not the Sun around the Earth. When was Hanuman born?

Prof. A. K. : I don’t know Swami.

Swami : When Rama killed Ravana, it was Hanuman who went to Ashoka Vanam and told Sita about this. Then Sita said, “Since today is Mangalavaaram (Tuesday) and because you have given good news, today shall be your Birthday.”
(Swami then enquired with Warden about the student who was sitting on a chair.) What happened to him?

Warden : Swami, He went to Bangalore hospital for an operation.

Swami : (Revealing His omnipresence) I know. A flowerpot fell on his feet.
A small flowerpot fell on this big boy. (To a teacher) What are your son and daughter studying? (The teacher replied that his son was in the second year and his daughter was in the first year of college.)
(To Prof. Sudhir Bhaskar) How is your son doing research? Has he started going to College? (Prof. Sudhir Bhaskar replied that his son, Prabhakar, had gone and met his research guide.)
(To the teachers) I was to go to Nellore and Kandaleru in helicopter. But I didn’t go because thousands of people would be waiting to catch a glimpse of Me. There will be no Bhadrata (security/safety) for them. It will be difficult for them.

Warden : Yes, Swami. We received so many phone calls about Your visit.
(Editor’s Note: Very often, Swami takes it on Himself to chastise His students and ensure that they do not slip away from the right track. At such times, Swami’s language would be that of a disciplinarian father. Here is one such instance…)

Swami : (To a student of the II MFM class) You have no gratitude. If food is given to animals, even they will have gratitude. Some people think that I don’t know anything. I know everything. I keep watching everyone. Education must give Vivekam (discriminative intelligence). If that is not there, then there is no use of education. It is because of your great good fortune that you are here. People don’t understand this. I have nothing to gain. It is for their own good. I am doing all this just for them. Only when gold is heated, and when it is hammered, that you can get good ornaments from it. Instead of seeing wrong things, it is better to be blind. Surdas (a great saint poet from North India) was blind. But still, he had lots of devotion towards God.
They (people who behave in an ungrateful manner) are not Bhaktulu (devotees) but Rogulu (diseased). I sent five students who wanted to study outside. I paid a large amount for each student. I sent one of them to Tumkur also. I have nothing to gain. It was for their own good. But they did not even come and show their faces to Me! The sins that get accumulated by such ungratefulness will be there for lives together.
I have sent so many students to medical colleges. They have now become doctors. Of all the occupations, doctors occupy an important position. They can cure so many people. Vaidyo Narayano Harihi (Doctor is an embodiment of Divinity). They can help hundreds of people. Guru Pournima festival is on 24th. 50,000 people are coming. (To a student) Where is your brother?

Student : Swami, all are my brothers.

Swami : This is a new stunt. Will you treat them all like your brothers?

Prof. A. K. : Swami, nowadays own brothers are quarrelling amongst themselves.

Swami : People will look at you, only when you have money. Otherwise why will they see you? Even when you are dead, they will see whether you have a ring or a chain and then take your body. Otherwise why will they see you? (Changing the topic) Today people from Anakapalli came. I gave them Prasadam.
Swami then introduced a long-standing devotee who was the former Managing Director of A.P.S.R.T.C., former Police Commissioner of Hyderabad, and currently the Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Public Service commission – Sri Appa Rao. Swami then asked him…

Swami : What do you want?

Devotee : Swami, I was in government service for 32 years. Now I want to be near you. Swami, I want Your Sannidhi (proximity).

Swami : Sannidhi Lo Ne Pennidhi Unnadi (The real treasure lies in the Divine Presence).

A short while later, after blessing the birthday boys, Swami went to the interview room.
